Address: 601 Pompano Ave.Phone: 941-361-6217 Website: www.sarasotataxcollector.com Information: If you have a valid out of state license, the state of Florida will exchange your license for the same class of license without requiring a written or road test. Motorists will need to have a vision test.
First-time registrants (those without a valid license from another state) must present the original title, proof of Florida insurance and a completed application along with the applicable fees to your local tax collector.
Residents need one of these forms of identification:
1. An original or certified U.S. birth certificate
2. A valid U.S. passport
3. A certificate of naturalization
Residents also need a secondary document that substantiates the primary document. The document may include, but is not limited to, the original or certified copy of one of the following:
school record stating date of birth, which must contain the registrar's signature
transcript of the birth record filed with a public officer charged with the duty of recording certificates
baptism certificate, which shows date of birth and the place of baptism
an insurance policy on the residents's life which has been in force for at least two years and has the month, day and year of birth
Florida or out-of-state driver license, valid or expired
Florida license record or identification card record
Selective Service Registration (Draft Card)
Florida Vehicle Registration certificate (HSMV 83399, owner's copy) obtained from the tax collector's office where the customer's vehicle was registered, Florida, or out-of-state registration certificate, if name and date of birth are shown
Driver licenses from the following states — Alaska, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin — are acceptable as secondary identification and to reciprocate driving privileges, and must be accompanied only by one of the forms of primary identification, such as a birth certificate, passport or certificate or naturalization
United States Military ID cards with an officer rank will be accepted as proof of citizenship only — not as proof of primary identification.
Canadian citizens must present any two of the following documents:
1. A valid Canadian passport
2. A valid Canadian driver license
3. An original or certified Canadian birth certificate
4. A Canadian Naturalization Certificate
Canadian citizens receive an original or renewal driver license for two calendar years from the date of issue.
Driver license address changes can be done online — http://express.hsmv.state.fl.us/ — or via telephone (1-866-GoRenew). The cost for an initial Florida license is $30. Duplicate and replacement licenses cost $10.
